We're delighted that Design Week has picked The Shape of Memory as one of its seven highlights of London Design Festival 2026. It sits in a guide alongside the new Soho Design District, the London Design Medals and Brompton Design District.
Design Week describes the installation as the result of a year of research into how heritage sites can give rise to limited-edition design objects. The first of these objects is Gilkicker Light No.01.
A light shaped by Fort Gilkicker
The light was developed from the geometry and material history of Fort Gilkicker in Gosport. Deniz worked with artists Sally Tyrie and Pippa Charlesworth and metalsmith Craig Palmer of Spin 360, drawing on fragments gathered from the fort, from stone shavings and handmade iron nails to burnt timber. Its etched brass surface was then altered by fire, echoing the burnt wood found on site.
The piece also connects the physical with the digital. NFC tags built into the installation let visitors open further layers of the project, including LiDAR scans of the fort.
